Actress banned from TV, for being too “erotic”!

Denny Kawan is young, beautiful, an up and coming actress and she is apparently too erotic and sexy for Cambodia and hence, she has been banned from appearing in front of any movie camera for the next 12 months!

What is even more saddening is the fact that she has apparently bowed down to this dictate and has even gone to the extent of stating, “I will now try not to be sexy as I usually am when I post on Facebook.”

Thankfully, the women rights groups in Cambodia are up in arms over this ruling and have termed it as a “violation of gender equality”, “discrimination against women” and outright “appalling”.

Speaking to the Cambodia Daily, Denny Kwan, said, “In Cambodia, there are many sexy artists. Some are even more than me when shooting, featuring kissing and being erotic.”

“I know it’s my right to dress how I want, but our culture, Cambodian people, cannot accept it,” she told the Phnom Penh Post. “I will now try not to be sexy as I usually am when I post on Facebook.”

She told the Cambodia Daily that when she was first called before culture ministry officials they ‘educated me like a daughter’, but she had said she had reserved the right to keep dressing as she wished.

We feel, it ought to be the right of women to decide, what they wish to wear. Clothing rules should not be enforced on anyone, be it a celebrity or a common woman. And to bar someone from appearing in front of cameras, just because they are too sexy/erotic for your taste? Well, that is downright draconian and ought to be protested again.

As for Ms. Kwan, we hope she wouldn’t be disheartened by all this and would continue to follow her heart and showcase her best self in front of her Facebook fans (you can follow her on, https://www.facebook.com/choum.roza/).
