The adorable saasu maa of Tu tu Main Main fame, Reema Lagoo suffered from Cardiac arrest last night and passed away, just 2 hours after being admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani’s Hospital. Her sudden death at the age of 59, has shocked her fans and friends in Television and Film Industry.
She was born as Gurinder Bhadbade on 3rd Feb 1958. After marriage to Vivek Lagoo, a Marathi actor, she had changed her name to Reema Lagoo.
Reema had begun her career with Television and gained popularity with her portrayal of a housewife Kokiji in Shriman Shrimati. Though, she soon made an indelible mark on Bollywood by acting in blockbuster movies such as Qayamat se Qayamat Tak, Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Apke Hain Kaun, Hum Saath Saath Hain etc. She gained massive fan following as the quintessential simple yet elegant mother of Bollywood movies. She was often touted as the happy opposite of Nirupa Roy.
Though, she did portray a few different roles in movies such as Aakrosh, where she played a dancer. In Yeh Dillagi, she was seen as a cold hearted businesswoman. And in a small film Rui ka Bojh, she gave one of her most critically acclaimed performance.
She was a popular Marathi actor and theatre artist as well. And, was equally sought after on big and small screen. Playing her age, and being restricted to the role of mother and mother in law, could not dampen her talent. She gave stellar performance in her assigned roles and created a niche for herself.
She is survived by a daughter Mrunmayee, who is also a Marathi theatre artist. Her sad demise disheartened Bollywood celebrities and most of them took to twitter to mourn the loss. Even PMO issued a statement, offering condolences on demise of a versatile actor.

May 2017 has been a sad month for Bollywood, with death of two stalwarts Vinod Khanna and Reema Lagoo, making irreparable loss.
