Double-decker AC train launching in India in July

The Indian Railways is all set to launch Utkrisht Double-Decker AC Yatri (Uday) Express in July.

Uday service is a special class service for overnight journeys that would only be launched on high-demand routes.

Essentially a double decker chair car, a single coach would be able to accommodate 120 passengers and will have automatic food and drink vending machines for passengers.

Each coach would also be equipped with large LCD screens with Wi-Fi speakers and comfortable reclining seats.

Initially, it would ply on high-demand yet short distance routes like Delhi – Lucknow and fare would be less than 3AC in regular mail/express trains.

More interestingly, these trains will be equipped with bio toilets, which should reduce the environmental damage and filth caused by regular trains. Though it remains to be seen, whether the toilets will function properly after the initial months!

Overall, it is an interesting launch by the Indian Railways and should help it maximize return on investment in the long run.
