Mercedes-Benz donates sweeper truck to Delhi

Mercedes-Benz’s state of the art, Road Sweeper Truck would soon be sweeping Delhi’s dusty streets (well at least in NDMC controlled areas.)

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Mercedes-Benz donated a Road Sweeper Truck based on BharatBenz 1214 medium-duty platform and manufactured by Roots, India’s largest indigenous manufacturer of cleaning machines and cleaning equipment.

The Road Sweeper Truck is BS-IV compliant and is supposedly the cleanest product in its category (in terms of vehicular emissions.)

This Road Sweeper Truck first sprays water on the area it is cleaning and then it’s vacuuming head lifts up all the dust and debris from the road. This results in not only cleaner looking streets, which remain clean for a longer time than traditional cleaning methods, it also helps reduce the pollution due to dust, as it effectively reduces the amount of dust on the streets.

For those who live and work in Delhi and NCR, know how big of a problem dust has become here and such Road Sweeper Trucks are need of the hour, along with proper disposal of such picked up debris, in order to reduce dust in the city.

Hopefully, this truck would be put to good use by the NDMC and we will get to see more such trucks being bought by Delhi Government to keep the city clean.

Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said: “At Mercedes-Benz, it is our constant endeavour to contribute back to the society, in our own way, under the ‘Mercedes for India’ initiative. Be it contributing to educational cause, rural development, skill enhancement or contributing towards a greener planet, we at Mercedes-Benz sincerely believe in acting for the betterment of the society and the country at large. As a responsible automaker and a corporate citizen, this novel initiative of donating the latest road sweeper truck, is a small step towards helping the citizens of Delhi and the NDMC, to make Delhi roads cleaner. Our endeavour of giving back to the society will continue through varied initiatives in the future as well.”

Suhas Kadlaskar, Vice President- Human Resource and Corporate Affairs, Mercedes-Benz India presented this Road Sweeper truck to Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Minister for Urban
Development, Government of India, in the presence of Shri Naresh Kumar, Chairman, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), in New Delhi today.
