After successfully taking on the multinational FMCG companies and carving out a brand and niche in the hearts and minds of Indians. Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali brand is getting ready to make a foray into the lucrative restaurant business.
With the food retail business expected to hit Rs. 71 lakh crore ($1.1 trillion) by 2025, it is the largest retail sector in India and a fairly lucrative one with already homegrown brands like Haldiram and Bikanerwala doing more business than the likes of McDonalds, KFC, Subway etc..
Baba Ramdev made his attention known to the media while declaring Patanjali’s earnings over the last fiscal year, which stood at Rs 10,561!
While it remains to be seen whether Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali brand makes a foray into the restaurant business with just Indian cuisines or also with things like burgers and pizzas to take on the likes of McDonalds and Dominos.
One thing is sure, KFC would have nothing to fear, since it is highly unlikely Patanjali would be selling non-veg dishes at its outlets, something which accounts for the majority of the sales at KFC.
We are also hoping that with the penchant for yoga and fitness, Baba Ramdev would come out with food items which are actually healthy and isn’t just junk food.
