Airbus A380 is huge, in fact, it is the largest passenger plane in the world and weighs a whopping 285 ton (285,000 kg). And yet, Porsche Cayenne managed to tow it, without any modification to the engine!
The 385-hp, Porsche Cayenne S Diesel managed to pull Air France’s Airbus A380 plane for 138 ft, with only a special tow attachment fitted to its standard tow bar. And if that wasn’t world record breaking enough, Porsche managed to repeat the feat with its 570-hp Cayenne Turbo S as well.
Though we feel, after the 385-hp Cayenne’s feat, it was a sure shot thing for the Turbo S to have pulled the A380.
Here is the official video from Porsche, showcasing the world record breaking event!
Richard Payne, the Porsche technician who guided the Cayenne to the record, said, “I could tell that it was working hard but the Cayenne didn’t complain and just got on with it. My mirrors were quite full of Airbus, which was interesting.”
Hats off to Porsche and their engineering to have done this with a production car, especially considering no structural changes were made for this record breaking event.
