Ever since, Shahrukh did the TED Talk in Vancouver, two weeks ago, the media is rife with how magnetic he has been there. Though conflicting reports of his portraying India in bad light, also did rounds on social media. Guess, when it comes to Shahrukh, nothing is treated as ordinary!
For the uninitiated, TED Talk is a platform provided to the World’s best thinkers and doers, to address audience in a Conference Hall, and speak for 18 minutes or less. The topics vary from Technology to Entertainment to Design. And so do the participants. The program has created a niche for itself and it is considered prestigious to be a part of.
And King Khan, once again, proved that he is indeed the Badshah of Bollywood by becoming the first ever Indian Actor to appear in the Conference.
Though done two weeks ago, TED Talk Channel released the full video of Shahrukh’s talk only on 11th May, reviving interest.
I just watched the YouTube video and thought of sharing my thoughts with you. Shahrukh indeed appeared super calm and suave, while addressing the packed house. He talked about his life in general and particularly stressed upon humanity, fame and love in the 18 minute long session.
King Khan quoted some witty anecdotes and also mentioned a few lesser known events from his own life and navigated the talk deftly from the adolescent humanity to future ‘You’.
The internet is rife with Shahrukh’s fans and media going overboard with his fantastic opening “I sell dreams and I peddle love to millions of people back home in India, who assume that I am the best lover in the world.”
Indeed, he delivered a great speech and for the first 5-7 minutes, I too was hooked onto his words. I am a self confessed big fan of Shahrukh, he has been my first crush and till date, my heart flutter at his witty repartee.
But, and it is a big but, that in this particular TED Talk, I struggled to find the energetic, spontaneous, bright eyed brilliant man, I am used to seeing on Award Stages, Interviews and Talk shows!
He has a flamboyant personality. He is a charmer. An expert in creating a web of words and sucking you in his World with a rare magnetic charm.
But, the Shahrukh, appearing on TED Talk appeared somewhat restrained and forced. Perhaps, he took the Talk too seriously or perhaps the setting was too formal, so he ended up being a bit too firm himself. The truth is, the die hard Shahrukh fan in me, felt a little left out. For the last two minutes, I hardly gave attention to what he was saying 🙁
However, that does not take away anything from the Badshah. He is supposed to host Indian version of TED Talk soon. And I am sure, by then, the familiar audience and setting, would make my old crush more comfortable and spontaneous. And I would be enamored once again by the witty charmer.
Till then do enjoy the Youtube video of his first ever TED Talk and chew on his thoughts.
